Seven years ago, we were still in high school. Friends. I couldn’t have imagined that, in seven years, Reed and Ryleigh would be engaged. Finally saying goodbye to the months and years of long distance stints. Pulling together the final details for their earthy August wedding. I’ve pinched myself a few times. And I’m happy to say that it is all real.
From the first moment discussing their wedding plans over coffee at Starbucks, it was clear that Reed and Ryleigh’s day was going to be something special. Something thought out. Executed to beautiful perfection. From garden-grown succulents as wedding favors to the variety of delicious foods (um, Mac + Cheese bar? Mediterranean station? Latin station? yes), their attention to detail and care for their loved ones was obvious. And their venue, the industrial St. Vrain in Longmont, couldn’t be any more stunning.
Then, one week prior to the wedding, Reed and Ryleigh got the news that would change their life. Reed was accepted into physical therapy school in Nebraska. They’d have to move across the country the day after their wedding. He would start school the day after that. Not exactly a relaxing way to start marriage, but an adventure for certain! And that was how Reed and Ryleigh handled it. They didn’t let stress take the driver’s seat. They were the picture of joy. Excitement. Trust.
Reed and Ryleigh, I love you both so much. Thank you for allowing me to be part of some of the most important moments of your life this year. For just two weeks now you’ve been Mr. and Mrs. VandenBroeke, and you’ve already begun a great new adventure in a new state. You’ve written the first few pages of so many chapters that have yet to unfold. I can’t wait to see how you grow, and how much fun you have together. You’re a great team. And all of us here in Colorado are cheering you on, every step of the way.
So, cheers, friends! To the beginning of the great new adventure that is marriage, no matter where it takes you.
