Although Alec (a Boston native and graduate of DU) and Nikki (a 4th generation Denver native) had met once briefly at a mutual friend’s birthday party, they had no idea how intertwined their lives actually were until they found themselves once again part of the same friend group staying together in a condo at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival in 2015. Their first actual conversation occurred after Alec roused himself from sleeping in (par for the course) while Nikki had been up for hours jogging trails and preparing party favors for the group (also on par), despite the fact that she had gotten in well after midnight and he had been well rested for the past 3 days. After a wonderful weekend of laughing, listening to music and hanging out in one of the most epic locations in Colorado, they became fast friends. It only took one sweet text message exchange over the following week and casual plans for a Fourth of July date to set this relationship into motion. Date #1 was certainly unforgettable (a bike ride, followed by dinner and a live streaming of a Grateful Dead reunion show at a local bar), Date #2 being a Neil Young show at Red Rocks and Date #3 being a romantic dinner at a local Denver hotspot where they found themselves talking about what sort of wedding they dreamt of having. In no time at all, they recognized they had something very special, and their love and admiration for each continued to grow. After a magical courtship just short of 2 years, Alec proposed to Nikki on her 37th birthday, a magical moment in the couple’s Denver home in the presence of their beloved pup Greta. All of this leading to February 24th, 2018, when they will join their lives together in Larkspur, Colorado in front of their family and closest friends.
