Monika + Sam
An elopement creates a magical, intimate way for couples to make their wildest, most romantic dreams about their wedding day come true without having to sacrifice a single, intimate moment between the two of them. For Monika and Sam’s big day this was exactly that sentiment. Whisking away to the beautiful mountains in Kananaskis free to focus on each other and celebrate their love in an uninhibited way was the most ideal for Monika and Sam to tie the knot. Their energy and love was electric, and this adventurous team deserved an incredible elopement experience. Going along with the couples style, we focused on chic bohemian decor elements along with warm earthy tones to compliment the natural elements of mother nature. Scenic placement was a key part of the bride and grooms first look; a picnic followed by a hike to the mountain top ceremony location. We nestled a romantic boho style picnic along the shore at the valley of Kananaskis in a remote spot for only the couple to enjoy. The picnic area focused on neutral coloured linen, gold place setting details, vintage brass bar cart, artistic cake and stunning dried florals. The tablescape consisted of hand selected charcuterie boxes, textured candles and stationery welcoming the bride and groom before their big “I do” moment. Prior to heading up for the ceremony hike, Monika and Sam cut into their bohemian inspired wedding cake, clinked their gold rimmed coupe glasses and began their journey onto becoming Mr. & Mrs. This was an incredibly special occasion as Monika and Sam had postponed their wedding date multiple times, and finally had the opportunity to elope! No more postponing, stress, pressure, or distractions, just two people committing their lives to each other.
A note from the Photographer, Taylor Oseen; When we were planning this springtime elopement for Monika and Sam we were so excited about all of the possible things we could do and places we could go. Monika and Sam decided to have a mountainside picnic finished off with a rewarding sunset hike to share vows. Picking the location and hike was easily the best part of planning, Monika and Sam were so down for any suggestion. After having postponed their wedding three times due to covid they were just ready to say ‘I Do’ no matter where it was. Monika and Sam were so thoughtful and had planned out so many wonderful, intentional details. Their wedding day letters and gifts to each other brought so many smiles and happy tears. Their friends had created a wedding day bridal box filled with Monika’s favourite things. They had packed along letters with other mementos from their relationship to reflect on over the day. It was the sweetest experience seeing how in love, thoughtful, grateful and kind two people really can be. Their genuine love for each other shined through all day. It was forecasted there would be a storm but somehow the weather held out for most of the day. At their picnic, we were greeted with sunny skies and a brief sun shower. It was almost near perfect weather for springtime in the Rockies. We almost made it through the day without a ton of snow but as their mountaintop ceremony began, the storm finally blew in. The light changed from golden to grey, and we were covered in big snow flakes in no time at all. But even that couldn’t stop them from smiling. Monika and Sam laughed off the weather and the cold that blew in. We finished off the ceremony with a few portraits and hiked back down in the dark. Monika and Sam’s elopement was the perfect day and the embodiment of what an intentional wedding can really look like or mean. Every detail and plan was really just for them, and I think that level of genuine love just shines through in every single one of their photos.
