Sarah Crocket and Ben Whitney are an unbelievable couple and I wanted to share their engagement and their story. Their engagement is more than a celebration of their love, but a celebration of life as Sarah recently beat melanoma cancer after years of treatment. Ben stayed by her side and took her on a trip to Portugal to celebrate once Sarah was healthy enough to travel. I was honored to capture their engagement on the snowy peaks of Loveland Pass and fell in love with them and their story.
We got engaged in Lisbon, Portugal. This was the first time I was allowed to travel in almost two years because I had been so sick from cancer treatments. So, this trip was super special for many reasons! Ben proposed to me on our last night in Portugal (we were leaving for Spain the next day). It was cold and it was raining and we were the only ones stupid enough to gallivant around the city that night. We strolled through the rainy streets embracing the quiet beauty of the city. The cobblestone streets were all ours. We stumbled into the only cafe that was open and sipped on delightfully robust Portuguese wines while a local singer serenaded us. Just us. We then stopped by this overlook in Alfama with a spectacular view of the Tagus. Many tourists frequented this overlook, but not on this night. It was just the two of us. Ben got down on one knee and told me he wanted me to be his lady for life. I cried so hard I could barely muster the word “yes.” It was perfect in every way!
