British Columbia Styled Shoot

The Inspiration

“This was my first styled shoot I planned myself as a photographer and I’m absolutely obsessed with the colours and textures that Whonnock Lake had to offer. This shoot was born when I was shopping downtown and saw this vintage dress. I knew it deserved it’s own shoot! I also love the idea of thrifting wedding dresses. I know this isn’t a typical wedding dress but it’s absolutely stunning and gave this styled shoot a soft feel. I used all small and local BC vendors. I really wanted to do a boho lakeside elopement shoot and what that would look like to me. Weddings can be super glam but I wanted this to be raw. I used the live edge birch and the little boots with the dress to give it more of a raw feel. The colours of the bouquet really complemented the lake. I really love using dried blooms because they can be kept after a wedding or even used again which is an amazing keep sake. Sarah, the owner of Biddys Blooms has been a huge help with the beginning stages of my photography journey. She’s always hooking me up with flowers! She has been a friend since we were little as we grew up dancing together. She is new to the wedding world and has absolute been crushing it! Weddings can be super high-stress and that can distract from the purpose of a wedding, celebrating love! In doing this shoot, I wanted to show that even having few decor items, you can still pull off a beautiful elopement. The birch arch really made this shoot for me. I originally wanted a brass circle arch but I’m so glad I ended up using the birch, it really tied everything together. The rental company that lended me the arch was my first employer when I was 15. They have been a huge part of my life ever since and a huge supporter of my photography, they got me into the wedding business. I’m so glad I got to capture the arch, it’s handmade by Derek and Al and is truly beautiful. Shooting Stacey and her husband was so easy, as they have something that I hope I get to have at their age. Their love really shines and it shows in the photos because they were so free and bubbly and just so in love. Every time I plan a styled shoot I always love to use couples who have amazing love that’s aged and something that stands out from a crowd.”
