We spent the day sightseeing in Barcelona, and then we met up with one of Brennan's college friends for a few drinks. On our way back to our airbnb, we were looking for a place for dinner, and decided to check out the options in plaza real. We had walked through the plaza several times and I had repeatedly said it was one of my favorite places- there was just something special about the fountain, the twinkle lights, and the palm trees surrounded by beautiful buildings.
While we ate the best paella ever, Brennan was also conspiring with our waiter. The plan: We would leave after our meal so he could go get the ring from our airbnb. Once he got the ring, he would tell me that he left his phone at the restaurant. Upon returning to the restaurant, he would go "check" for his phone and at this point hand his phone over to the waiter to video the proposal. The waiter would then follow us into the plaza and he would pop the question.
I fell for it all, and then I said yes.
Why we chose New Mexico
Brennan mentioned to someone on our last trip to Santa Fe: "It's crazy because if I hadn't met her, I would've never come here. And I would've never known what I was missing."
We've probably been asked, "Why Santa Fe?" over 100 times since we set our date. Most of our friends and family are spread out across the South East so Santa Fe isn't a typical wedding destination. There's a couple different versions of what I tell people when they ask. Usually mentioning that I was born in Albuquerque, used to visit Santa Fe any time we visited my brother (who still lives in Albuquerque), and that it's just a special place to my family.
But what I really want to tell them is that if they come to our wedding, they will hopefully have the same reaction as Brennan and it will make complete sense. They will fall in love with the open landscape, the sunsets, the contrast of the desert and the mountains, the blending of multiple cultures, and the genuinely hospitable people of Santa Fe. Just like I did when I was little, and just like he did when he first visited.
