As a photographer, I see the potential in every landscape for a photography session, but I’m often travelling through relatively inaccessible parts of the country and the logistics are pretty difficult. Last summer, I drove through an old forest fire burn in the San Isabel National Forest in Southern Colorado, saw the potential right away, and decided to put feelers out for a couple adventurous enough to make the drive up in the winter. Karyssa and Caleb were 100% on board from day one and showed up in fab clothing but also tough footwear and the willingness to scramble around in snow, mud and rocks. They’ve been together for ten years but just got engaged this last year, so this was really a celebration of both a long history and a new beginning for the two of them. Ours were the only footsteps aside from animal tracks on these snowy hillsides, and the thrill of capturing that late winter light really was only made better by the lighthearted and totally genuine connection Karyssa and Caleb (and their pup, Kova!) have.
