We meet when we were both living in Whistler, Canada. Dylan is originally from South Africa and the UK but knew he wanted to end up in Canada after his first season. He went back to the UK after his first season and came back two months later feeling he was missing out on something. Me being born and raised in Whistler also recently moving back after two years at university in Vancouver our mutual friend Gill introduced us. After our first date, we were attached at the hip and couldn’t get enough of each other. We bonded on being insecure about not being insecure in high school, traveling, food, and living in the mountains.
Fast forward 7 years of adopting a cat, buying a house, traveling, adopting a dog we got engaged in April 2019 in Kauai, Hawaii. Our first week in Hawaii was spent on Kauai just the two of us, a rarity in our lives with tight-knit family and friends in the UK, South Africa, and Norway. When Dylan proposed we were on the edge of the Awa Awapuhi trail, our legs already shaking from walking on the ledge of the steep cliffs. When Dylan pulled out the ring all I can remember is being so surprised and unbelievably happy at the same time. Here was my best friend, my person asking me to be his wife was the most magical experience. After our hike, we had the most magical week on Kauai filled with coffee, dinner dates, waterfalls, surfing, relaxing and just enjoying each other’s company as a newly engaged couple. We are busy planning our wedding on Salt Spring Island in June 2020, where we will bring all our family from South Africa, The UK, Norway, and Canada together and we can hardly wait to carry on this crazy adventure together.
