Getting married on a ranch surrounded by the towering Rocky Mountains is a dream for many couples. The Double Diamond X Ranch, located down the Southfork outside Cody, Wyoming, is the ideal location for those looking to reconnect with nature and unplug during their wedding weekend.

The ranch is situated at the end of a long valley, where the Southfork of the Shoshone River meets the majestic Rocky Mountains. It’s not near the hustle or bustle of anything–just pure untamed wilderness.

The Ranch

The Double Diamond X Ranch was originally homesteaded in 1914 and is considered one of the oldest guest ranches in Wyoming. The owners, Matt and Jenine, left their careers in southern Wyoming to begin ranching with their family in Yellowstone’s northern country. Since then, they’ve opened their property to share the wild west with guests and couples who visit from around the world.

Bookings include a 4,000-square-foot lodge, rustic saloon, and 2,000-square-foot indoor/outdoor pavilion. The ranch also offers guest cabins, ensuring a comfortable and convenient stay for those traveling to attend. Accommodation at the ranch can sleep 45-50 guests throughout ten rustic and historic guest cabins.

The Surroundings

Situated 50 minutes outside of Cody, Wyoming, down the remote Southfork Valley, the surroundings of Double Diamond X Ranch are truly wild. The location is part of the Greater Yellowstone ecosystem, meaning that there is an abundance of wildlife surrounding the property. Don’t be surprised if you see deer, elk, fox, coyotes, and other wildlife during your stay.

The property is surrounded by 3 million acres of some of the country’s wildest, untamed, and most stunning wilderness. Here, there are few decorations needed, as the landscape provides a ‘wow’ factor only nature can produce.

Activities

Yellowstone National Park

This is Yellowstone country, after all! Following your gorgeous wedding at the Double Diamond X Ranch, a romantic weekend can include visiting the nearby Yellowstone National Park. Guests traveling to your celebration can also benefit from visiting Yellowstone (and Grand Teton!) National Park, turning your wedding into an unforgettable trip and memory for all.

Ranch Activities

For those celebrating a wedding weekend with their entire wedding party, the Double Diamond X Ranch is ideally located near the Shoshone River, one of the premier locations for fly fishing in the United States. The guided fly fishing tour the ranch offers is an excellent option for a groomsmen outing or bachelor party.

For the bridesmaids, there are plenty of options as well! This includes cocktails at the authentic saloon on the property, horseback riding, interpretive day hikes, and more. Whether looking for relaxation or adventure on your wedding weekend, Double Diamond X offers something for every couple.

Off-Roading

More than half of Wyoming is only accessible by off-road or 4×4 vehicles. If looking for the perfect day excursion, there are plenty of stunning areas in Northwestern Wyoming to get out and explore. Those interested in history can opt to book a day tour out of Cody to the abandoned mining town of Kirwin. The once-bustling mining village was where Amelia Earhart built a retirement cabin that she planned to move to after her around-the-world trip.

Downtown Cody

Relatively small in size, the closest town of Cody, Wyoming, has a surprising number of art galleries, breweries, and shopping. Those looking to celebrate their special weekend with a cocktail can visit the historic Chamberlain Inn or the newly-opened Proprietress. Cody is also the rodeo capital of the world and has a fun and lively rodeo every night at 8:00 pm from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Vendors

If worried the remote location affects the availability of vendors, the Double Diamond X Ranch can help provide and help source their most trusted local vendors. There are numerous options for catering, photography, rentals, and more. You even have the option to bring a coffee bar or horse trailer-converted mobile bar to your wedding!

The Double Diamond X Ranch is a long-standing staple as an authentic and working guest ranch in Wyoming. It is rare to find a venue so rural, classic, and wild. The stunning location and unplugged remoteness make for an idyllic mountain ranch wedding weekend with those you love most.
