A lot of people have asked me: did you know it was going to happen?
Of course I knew! We’ve talked about this for awhile and it was our goal when we started our relationship. But what I didn’t expect was how incredibly well planned and thoughtful it was.
A week before the surprise proposal, Caleb asked me to join him for a fancy dinner on the upcoming Wednesday. Right away I knew something was up, because we almost never go out on a weekday. Throughout the week, my mind played scenarios of a possible proposal. Knowing how low-key he is, I expected a short and simple “I love you, will you married me?”, and I decided I would be okay with that.
On the day of the proposal, Caleb took me for a super early dinner at Teahouse in Stanley Park. With the ocean in view, I knew something was going to happen. But when Caleb rushed through dinner and asked for the bill before I could even finish the last bite of my steak, I was puzzled. I was even more confused when he asked me to get in the car, I mean... we were in Stanley Park! Wasn’t he going to propose when we go for a stroll by the water?
He drove for a long time until we finally stopped at Porteau Cove Provincial Park and he asked me to take a stroll with him down the pier. As we were walking, we came across this beautifully decorated area, and my initial thought was, " that’s not for me”, because honestly, I had no expectations from him. But then he led me towards it and it wasn’t until I saw our photos on the railing did I realize it was actually for me.
For those who know me really well, you may wonder how I managed not to cry. When I realized it was for me and the proposal was happening, my mind went blank and I only heard about 15% of his speech. In fact, when Caleb popped the question, I couldn’t even speak, all I could do was nod. Everything was a blur and then all our friends popped out of nowhere and started hugging me, I was in a daze and could not believe what just happened. What was the highlight of my night? It was when Caleb drove me home then came upstairs, knelt down with my parents and prayed.
Oh! And the proposal setup? He had help from my future sister-in-law and had asked Honour and Blessing Events to design and create the proposal setup.
All I can do is thank God for this God-fearing man and the love and support from brothers and sisters.
