Peaceful Santa Fe Desert Elopement

New Mexico Elopement

The Couple

Victoria + Alan

Victoria + Alan eloped on their property in Santa Fe, New Mexico during the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead of waiting or risking a gathering while travel restrictions remained in place, they celebrated their marriage just the two of them. They recently moved to the southwest from New York, and their Adobe-style home in the desert became a haven of calm amidst the uncertainty in 2020. I met them at their property and was immediately in awe of the style and how beautifully the construction fit into the surrounding desert – windows everywhere brought in such gorgeous light, and their balconies provide the perfect place to sit and watch the sunset over the Jemez Mountains each evening. They exchanged rings standing in a garden of flowers. Alan happily told me of how they had come across the home for sale while visiting Santa Fe and immediately fell in love with the place. Victoria shared how much she appreciated the difference in pace – the calm of the southwest was distinctly different than their life in New York. The landscape around their property showcased the best of the southwest. We began by exploring along an arroyo, which was dried from the summer heat but overhung by juniper trees. We then walked along a road that passed some of the oldest buildings in their community, all the while Victoria shared what she has learned of the two women who defied the norms of their time and originally owned the Las Dos homestead. I love witnessing pride in your community, and that made it even more special to witness these two celebrate their marriage in a land they were growing to love! We went back to their Adobe-style home as the sun got lower in the sky, and walked up a short hill behind the house to watch the sunset. The Jemez mountains glowed to the west, and the Sangre De Cristo range turned red to the east. The peace and beauty of the desert was a stark contrast to the chaos and stress many of us have been feeling lately, especially as wedding plans have had to consistently change to accommodate pandemic regulations. This intimate elopement was perfect for Victoria & Alan – no stress, no requirements, just natural beauty in the safety of their own home.
