This styled shoot was designed to illustrate the beauty of the west coast during it’s moodiest season. The dried foliage was a focal point for our inspiration, as we wanted to deviate from the trendy greenery that we see so often. On Vancouver Island, fall is one of the most picturesque times of the year when the lush greens from summer transform into an extensive palette of oranges and browns. We wanted to showcase this natural colour palette because we feel it is underrepresented in wedding designs. We were inspired by the opulence of the venue and wanted to maintain a luxurious ambiance in every detail. One of our favourite aspects of the venue was the infinity pool, which blends into the ocean for a seamless transition between luxury and nature. We chose to do the ceremony set up against the garage doors because we wanted to show a unique area for the vows as opposed to this venue’s regular ceremony spot. The colour contrast and symmetry of the building perfectly appealed to our design. We also wanted to showcase the diversity of the venue by utilizing different backdrops for each set.

We worked with a large team of 15 talented local vendors to create our final look of moody elegance depicted through the natural elements. The most challenging aspect of this shoot was, of course, the unpredictable west coast weather. Although the weather held out for the setup, the rain started to downpour just as the shoot began. The team of on-site vendors were quick to think of a back up plans and adapt. We had four people holding up umbrellas for the models, photographers, and decor; they would retreat, we would shoot quickly, then they would return to provide protection from the rain. We also had towels on hand to dry everything in between shoots to avoid too many raindrops. All of the vendors worked with such dedication to executing this shoot; the photographer even spent hours editing the photos to add flames to each candle, since they wouldn’t stay lit in the rain.

In the end, the misty backdrop and drops of water on everything only added to the look and we couldn’t be more pleased with the results. Our shoot depicts a true west coast fall wedding and the expertise of local vendors to adapt in the probable case of inclement weather. The photos are so elegant, the viewer could never imagine the struggles we ran into while pulling it off.
