Matthew Christopher | Interview

Matthew Christopher

Matthew Christopher, originally from a pig farm in Iowa, was destined to become a bridal gown designer. After attending design school and working with some of the top names in the industry, Christopher started his own label in 2002 and is now a top bridal couture designer with gowns found across the United States and abroad. Matthew Christopher designs are offered in a variety of styles and silhouettes to suit any body type. From innate beading to classic glam, there is a gown for every bride!

Earlier this year, Matthew Christopher hosted a trunk show at Little White Dress Bridal Shop. While there, Rocky Mountain Bride sat down with Christopher to get the inside scoop.

What would you say your design process is?

The design process is first and foremost listening to your brides and finding out what are they asking for. You then put your spin on what they are asking for. When they say they want a clean gown, we design something that’s an interesting take on the ‘clean’ trend. It’s a combination of your ever-evolving aesthetic and style with what is marketable for brides today. Your aesthetic is ever-changing, so you have to figure out how to slow it down in production. Your gown should be like your favorite pair of jeans.

Who would you say the Matthew Christopher bride is?

For me, it is a wide range. People tell me all the time that they are so glad I have a range of designs. Anyone could be a Matthew bride. Whatever size you are, my gowns will give you shape. It’s all about the fit.

“Matthew has always been known for his fit. He makes every woman look fabulous.” – Cate Carpenter, Owner & Founder of Little White Dress Bridal Shop.

The seaming, embroidery, and stitching accentuate a woman’s figure.

What would you want your message and impact to be?

My life is my message: to bring joy to women and help them feel spectacular on their wedding day; to help brides feel like a red carpet celebrity; to know I was a part of something that was so meaningful and important in someone’s life. Because our greatest gift is love, when I work with these brides I’m still that same kid who grew up in Iowa. Let’s not lose what we love.

Within the Rocky Mountain region, Matthew Christopher wedding gowns can be found exclusively at Little White Dress Bridal Shop in Denver, Colorado.
