Taylor + Ruger
We got a tear in our reading Taylor + Ruger’s love story. It’s evident these two love birds are meant to be! We hope you enjoy their fun, lighthearted engagement photos and love story as much as we at Rocky Mountain Bride did. Happy reading!
Ruger and I met through our jobs as professional dancers on the dance company Odyssey Dance Theatre. The funny thing is, I had known of him, but not necessarily known him, most of my adolescent life – we often attended the same competitive dance events growing up. I knew who he was because he was supremely talented, cool and really cute.
On our first date, we went out for sushi and the Lego Batman movie. He outright cackled the whole time (endearing, honestly), and then shyly reached for my hand about halfway through the movie. I’ll be honest, I was not really looking to date anyone, let alone get serious with anyone, when I met Ruger. But he was persistent – even when I broke up with him TWICE in the early stages of our romance. I was not deserving of his patience, loyalty or compassion.
It took some time for me to come around, but when I did, it was like the planets aligned. We even survived a long-distance relationship for about eight months when Ruger moved to LA to further pursue his dance career.
We had been talking about getting married for a long time – probably a year – before he proposed. It was a Sunday in August, and he was acting completely out of character. He had told me the ring was “delayed” in production, and so I had no idea he was going to propose that day, despite pretty much everyone around me acting secretive.
He asked me to go outside with him onto the deck attached to my house. Believe it or not, both times I had broken up with him were on that same deck. When I walked out the door, I was met with a beautiful scene: lights, pillows, greenery, and a slew of pictures of Ruger and I throughout the various stages of our relationship. I was awestruck, and then speechless, when he got down on one knee.
When he asked me to marry him, I didn’t hear him at first – I was pretty emotional. I said, “Did you say it?!” and basically ruined the smoothness of the moment. But in hindsight, it’s pretty funny. We got married a few months later, in November, and everything about our wedding day was perfect. It was, as cliche as it sounds, the best
