Our love story started 18 years ago at Clemson University. Sean and I literally met each other the first day of my freshman year in August 2000. It is funny because Sean saw me (or who he thought was me) walking on the other side of campus and mentioned to himself “who is that cute girl?” and continued on to class. Much to his confusion and wondering if I could time travel, there I was sitting in his class and it turns out he had seen my twin sister a few minutes before! I always laugh when he tells me that story. We met in class that day as we both majored in Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Management and became fast friends. We enjoyed college to the fullest with fun days on the lake (some of our first memories together), nights out on the town, and occasional studying!
In 2004, we graduated and went our separate ways but always stayed in touch. It wasn’t until January of 2007, when our paths would cross again in Jackson Hole, WY. We enjoyed many years living it up in this amazing mountain town but circumstances brought me away from Jackson in 2010 and I wouldn’t return until 2013 (3 years of sadness for our dear Seanboy). Sean and I had a few more life lessons to learn before we would find our way to each other. It wasn’t until January 17, 2017 that we would have our first date at the top of the Gondola. It was the perfect night enjoying Teton Thai, listening to music, and talking about everything under the sun. It was then we both knew that life’s timing had finally presented itself and our friendship would grow into the greatest love we would ever know!
Fast forward to September 2017, Sean and I flew back east to Clemson, South Carolina (where he grew up) for a football game. On Friday, September 22, Sean created the perfect day starting with a visit to some of his favorite places around Clemson. It was so fun to reminisce and reflect on the good old days! That afternoon, we got back to his parent’s house on Lake Keowee and decided to head out for a boat cruise. We arrived to one of our favorite spots on the lake that has these pretty waterfalls. We splashed around, shared a few beers, and enjoyed a nice afternoon on the water. As we began to head home Sean slows the boat and says “Let’s share the first beer we had on this boat together!” He hands me a Fat Tire, which immediately took me back! I then realized we needed a bottle opener. So, I ask Sean for one and he leans down to the cooler and is fiddling around for a few minutes. He then starts slowly turning around and then there he is on one knee with a ring! He said “Haynes, I think it’s only appropriate to ask you this question here…I’ve always loved you and want to spend the rest of my life with you…will you marry me? Do you want to get old together?” and my immediate response was “YES, A THOUSAND TIMES YES!” We were both beaming with excitement and still are! Now we count down the days until we get to say our “I Do’s” at the top of the Gondola here in Jackson Hole where it all began!
