Veanna + Kris

The Proposal

“Kris reached out to me back in March, hoping I’d be available to document his proposal to his girlfriend, Veanna. He’d booked a weekend stay near Predator Ridge in Vernon, BC. This particular area, located on unceded, traditional land of the Syilx Okanagan People, is home to hiking trails that allow panoramic views of Lake Okanagan. Kris had hoped to propose at a lookout point at the top of Mount Royce, taking advantage of the amazing lake views. He’d done his research, and knew that the lookout point also had a cute little gazebo and fire-pit, and he envisioned having some cozy photos taken by the fire after he proposed. He wanted Veanna to be totally surprised by the proposal. This type of session is completely my cup of tea, and I told him I couldn’t wait to be a part of such a special and life-changing moment! The evening of the proposal arrived. Although the weather app had called for rain, it was as though the clouds parted and the sun made a brilliant appearance just for the occasion. I arrived early, and lugged my gear, firewood and kindling to the lookout point (which I hid behind the gazebo upon arrival). I then set myself up near the lookout point and put my acting skills to work; anyone who passed by would think I was a tourist visiting the area and taking photos of the lake and distant mountains. Eventually Kris and Veanna arrived. Kris made a casual remark to me about hoping they wouldn’t be in the way of my photography, to which I replied, “of course not! How gorgeous is this sun tonight?” They smiled and continued to admire the view of the lake. Kris pointed out something in the distance, and as Veanna searched the horizon, Kris got down on one knee. The rest is history. The remainder of this magical session was spent frolicking along the forest trail, cozying up by the fire, and we even managed to catch the golden hour glow through the trees. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen two people quite so madly in love and genuinely happy.”
