Maddie and Zak might be as cute as they come! These California natives met at UC Santa Barbara and have the best story! Zak actually met Maddie three different times in college and exchanged numbers each time! Zak says they met, “First at a party with a bunch of mutual friends, then we saw each other from balconies next door to each other in the town of Isla Vista, and then finally again in the UC Santa Barbara library. I was wearing sweatpants. I still get a kick out of the fact that Maddie decided to give me her number for a third time while I was wearing sweatpants!”
With the two relocating to Colorado together, Zak knew he wanted to propose in the mountains. Zak carried the ring around in his pocket for months! Zak said, “Anyone who knows me knows I'm terrible with keeping track of things – the fact that I had my grandma's ring in my pocket for as long as I did is incredible.” Zak had envisioned an elaborate engagement but knew that really wasn’t their style. They ended up spending the day in the mountains, checked out the Bread Bar in Silver Plume, then did a little hiking around Red Rocks. They watched the sun set over Denver, and then he got down on one knee and asked Maddie to marry him.
The two purchased their first home (in the pictures) about a year ago in Longmont, CO. The home was built in 1910, and the two have been working hard to make it feel like their own. The one thing that truly feels like them, is their chicken coop! Maddie shared that, “When Zak and I first started dating we worked on a farm just north of Santa Barbara, and I have worked on farms in Colorado for the last 5 years. It's a dream to have a small farm of our own one day, but finding a cute home that allows chickens is the next best thing for now.” With their rescue dogs joining the engagement session, we set out to capture exactly who Maddie and Zak are: a fun, loving couple who wanted to show their daily life at home and in their neighborhood, and their love for the mountains!
