Megan + Connor
Megan’s dream of a historic wedding meant they needed to get married in a beautiful, historic building, which is where the Hotel Finlen came in. Originally from South Dakota, Megan + Connor chose to plan their beautifully historic wedding in Butte, Montana at the Hotel Finlen.
I was born and raised in South Dakota, and Connor and I still live here. Kind of weird that we had our wedding in Butte, right? When I started the process of wedding planning, we were planning to have the wedding in Aberdeen, where we live. The issue was, I couldn’t find a venue that matched my vision. I craved history and culture, like a location with a story. Aberdeen, however, didn’t have anything that matched that. I tried really hard to make places work, but I didn’t feel like settling for something that didn’t seem perfect. So as I was brainstorming, Butte came to mind. Both of my parents are from Butte, so we travelled there every summer when I was growing up. We continue to visit Butte every year, as it is still my favorite city in America.
It was a crazy idea to plan a wedding in another state without it being a destination wedding, but it seemed to be the perfect location for our wedding. Specifically, the Hotel Finlen completed my vision of a venue with history. You see, not only is it a beautifully historic space, but my great uncle owned the hotel at one point. How cool would that be to have a celebration at the Finlen years after he owned it? I mean, everything about that was perfect. I presented this idea to Connor – he knew how special this place was, so he gave the final ok, and we went for it! While the planning wasn’t always simple, we couldn’t have been happier. We got to introduce our small group of family and friends to this unique city that we love.
