The Inspiration
“When Ashley told me that the wrong first dance was played at BOTH of her weddings, the thought of her being robbed of that moment made me nauseous. I’ve thought of that moment constantly ever since. Looking around and seeing how much magic has been lost through all of the divide and judgements in the past two years of a pandemic in Canada. As a creative, we have the unique ability to bend the world around us at will; creating moments that others may not think possible. Ashley and David were going to get that first dance, even if it was three years later. Ashley and David are two of the most tenacious lovers I had ever met, and they were the only couple I wanted to tell the story of Frosted Eden, staged in the middle of a Canadian winter cold snap. Frosted Eden was my therapy, my hearts outlet for the heaviness of the world, living through a two year pandemic. It was my way of creating a world that I so desperately wanted to see. A world where love would win again. The disconnect and lack of basic respect would be restored in the most present moment between two lovers. On this fresh winter morning (coincidentally the first of a three week cold snap of -40 Celsius), Ashley and David stepped back into their original wedding attire from three years prior. They had no idea that when they stepped onto the set of Frosted Eden, live musicians would be on cue. Ashley +David were about to have that first dance, for the first time. Finally. A once in a lifetime moment, in a whimsical third chance. This was the story of two lovers whose sincere love, respect, kindness, commitment and connection brought the tundra back to life. Love in this parallel world, beat all odds and bloomed in the unlikely place of a forgotten world- post-pandemic Eden.”
