A bohemian elopement inspired by the free-spirited, lovers of the world and features two of Idahos own! After traveling a combined 2,853 miles, Danika from Denver, Colorado and Jacob from Ashburn, Virgina met while visiting Florida for a summer. A season of adventure and romance, led to a traditional marriage ceremony and celebration in Salt Lake City, Utah. They now reside in Rexburg, Idaho.
Due to the 2020 pandemic, an elopement has reemerged as a popular alternative to traditional weddings, becoming the “only option” for many. This realization led me to create a photo experience capturing the romantic elopement of two individuals, passionately enveloped in the “can’t sleep, can’t breath without this person,” state of bliss. The unique intimacy created in the couple’s choosing to forsake tradition is wildly exciting and ultimately engenders the sense that for each other, they are truly the only two people in the world.
The desert cliff overlooking the river and rolling hills, stretching out to the distant horizon, provides the perfect setting for the ceremonial celebration of their love. The waning sun casts a tender a glow as they embrace, laugh, and reminisce in their love. The backdrop of a minimalist frame, laced in foraged greenery, compliments the theme of traveling lovers making a spontaneous stop to perform the ultimate gesture of commitment. The bride’s dress, flowing with the wind, brings the bohemian flair in their style, to life. The hairpiece, with a coined chain and dried florals, is tucked delicately into her loose, half-up, hairstyle accented with full, cascading braids. The groom’s untucked and lightly-buttoned, white shirt, paired with a dark gray pant, is the perfect outfit choice to highlight his wild and free-spirited nature. At a weathered table, the barefoot lovers sit enjoying each other’s company, as the last light of day lingers in the sky. The table adorned with eclectic metals, a collection of glass bottles, and modern vases, marries a vintage style with contemporary influences. The simple yet timeless cake is beautifully highlighted by a combination of earthy, dried, and fresh florals. In the end, the entire evening while creating this stylized elopement, was both dreamy and whimsical for all involved. The couple themselves felt it perfectly suited their story, and found it was more “them”, than their own traditional wedding had been. I look forward to capturing more nights like this, as lovers, everywhere discover the magic an intimate elopement can create for them.
