Family Ranch Wedding in Wyoming

Wyoming Wedding

Patrick and I met at the tail-end of 2015 through mutual friends in Denver, CO. (Our parents are under the impression that it was a “dinner party,” but it was actually a kegger, though there may have been food). It was always non-negotiable that we would be married at my grandmother’s operating horse ranch, located outside of Dubois, WY. For decades she has bred, trained, and sold Tennessee Walking Horses, known for their comfortable gait, the “running walk.” I grew up traveling to Wyoming every summer to ride horses, hike in the Absarokas, and spend time with my extended family. Patrick proposed at the ranch in 2017 and a year later we were married at the very spot where he popped the question. Patrick grew up outside of Boston, MA, so many of his family and friends had never been out west prior to our wedding. We really enjoyed being able to bring our loved ones together in a beautiful part of the country that many had never experienced.

Our ceremony was truly a celebration of two families coming together: I wore my grandmother’s dress from 1953 with her mother’s antique Belgian lace veil and Patrick’s mother officiated. I changed into a lighter, more modern dress for the rest of the night and we danced the night away underneath the starry Wyoming sky. Highlights included a boisterous appearance by our Bernese Mountain Dog puppy, an intimate photo session at the top of a vista overlooking the property, and our friends’ accounts of the shuttle ride to the Rustic Pine Tavern following our reception.

The town of Dubois was so welcoming to our guests and many stayed before or after the wedding to explore Jackson Hole, Yellowstone, and the surrounding area. There is really nothing like gathering your favorite people in your favorite place, and that is exactly what our wedding was all about.
