Our Story

From the Bride

Ryan and I share a deep love for the mountains. Ryan grew up in Canmore, and I spent many weekends in Banff with my family. During our almost five years of dating, we spent many weekends hiking and exploring the Bow Valley, staying in rustic lodges and enjoying the mountains. When we got engaged, we immediately knew that there was no other place we'd want to have our wedding. We settled on Baker Creek Mountain Resort, with their beautiful rustic log cabins away from cell service and distraction. We wanted to share a cozy weekend with our closest friends and family where they could share our favorite winter activities and celebrate our marriage.

Together (with lots of help from my mom), we tackled the planning on our own. We wanted our wedding to be filled with personal details that reflected Ryan and I as a couple but that also blended the rustic mountain style with a luxurious vintage feeling. After all the work we put in planning our day, I wanted to be able to enjoy it. We hired Callandra from Postcard weddings to be our wedding coordinator. By handing off the management of our day and having expert advice in timing everything, Ryan and I were able to be fully present and soak in all the joy of our wedding day!

Our wedding was the most perfect day! It surpassed all my expectations and it is so hard to pick a favorite moment. We chose to do a bride reveal before the ceremony to take advantage of the light for photographs. It turned into one of the best decisions we made! It was so special to share a quiet moment just the two of us to see each other for the first time. Doing our photographs before the ceremony was such a memorable part of our day. Kirstie, our photographer and her husband Kevin are such a pleasure to be around they set the tone for our portrait session. We were happy to brave the snow and cold to capture photos of our day in our favorite season. They are our favorite photos of the day!

The best part of our wedding for me, if I had to choose just one, was our vows. We chose to write our own vows and to keep them a surprise for each other. They were the heart of our day, and it was so special to share our feelings in front of our loved ones.

Since we chose an idyllic location for our wedding, we didn't want to overdo the decor. My mom and I collected candle sticks from my grandmas, aunts and from my mom's wedding. It added a great vintage feel with all the different metals and it made it feel very personal. Along with lots of candlelight, I knew I wanted the cedar to line the tables and lots of fresh flowers. The ladies at Willow Flower Company in Canmore did a great a great job of bringing my vision to life. I wanted pops of red but without feeling too Christmassy. They suggested a great blend of flowers that stood up to the chilly temperatures and added a feminine counter point to the log cabin setting. After a delicious meal, our guests danced the night away to away to a great DJ. I wouldn't change a single thing about our wedding. It was a magical day and we feel so blessed to have been able celebrate our love and commitment to each other in such a beautiful setting surrounded by those closest to us.
