Although we cannot remember the first time we met, we are thinking it was most likely in a gym somewhere in Eastern Colorado when Matt was a senior at Limon and Kenzi was a freshman at Simla. We both remember always running into each other at various small-town events; however, it was never at a moment in our lives to pursue one another. (Our reminder that God’s timing is always perfect.) Fortunately, UCCS women’s basketball program plays a summer schedule in Denver just minutes away from where Matt was living. A game lined up perfectly on the weekend of June 22nd and 23rd, conveniently Kenzi and Matt’s birthdays. Matt asked Kenzi if she wanted to go on a hot date to Qdoba before her game, where we then learned our birthdays were a day apart and made a plan to go celebrate with our friends after the game. It turned out to be the best birthday ever and we both knew this was what we had been waiting for. The rest of the summer was spent watching women’s basketball, top golfing, working on Matt’s first home in Denver, and other fun adventures together.
The next summer Matt was asked to move to North Dakota for his career. He couldn’t imagine life without Kenzi so he asked her if she would make the move with him. These past two years in North Dakota have taught us so much. Most importantly that loving God first and then each other has strengthened our relationship and brought more joy to our lives than we could’ve imagined. Matt proposed to Kenzi after their first year together in ND in Las Vegas after dinner at the Stratosphere!
