Colorado Engagement Session
The Couple
Helena + Dominic
Love Story
“Helena was born and raised in the Denver, Colorado area. Her parents immigrated here in 1999 from Bosnia and Herzegovina and that is a huge part of her life. She is currently at University of Colorado Denver earning her bachelor’s degree in Construction Engineering and Management and will graduate in December 2022. She is an intern at Mile High Flood District and am working under a professional engineer in waterways, streams, rivers, etc. Dominic was born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. He comes from a huge family; he himself has 7 siblings while his mom has 13 and his dad has 12. He is currently studying at Metropolitan State University to get his bachelors degree in Exercise Science. He is also set to graduate December 2022 and then will be continuing his education by attending Chiropractic school in Illinois. What’s so interesting is that they met at the same college (in Myrtle Beach) where many of my family members attended! Helena attended Coastal Carolina with an academic scholarship. Dominic was signed on to pole vault for their track team. While there, they resided in the same dorm building, same floor, and lived a couple doors down from each other. After some time, the two became best friends and ended up dating. Since it was freshman year of college, neither of them had cars and their campus was not very walkable to food or shops. So the majority of Helena and Dominic’s dates consisted of late night walks around campus, sorority events, and overall hanging out in the dorm. After Covid, both transferred to Colorado schools and will graduate this winter. Their proposal in Mexico was perfect! After visiting an Italian restaurant for dinner, Dominic wanted to find a place to take pictures together. He set up his phone on the ridge of a palm tree, and Helena assumed he had put on the timer for a picture. But he was video recording instead. They posed for the “picture” and he turned her around and gave the most heartfelt speech. Helena started crying when and she realized what was happening, he got down on one knee and proposed. It was everything she could’ve hoped for; the place was perfect, the day, the ring, everything! Some of their favorite weekend activities involve being outside and taking mini day trips. They will drive up to Boulder, walk around the canyon, grab food on Pearl Street or they will go to Breckenridge, Colorado Springs, BlackHawk, Vail, etc. Helena and Dominic aren’t ones to walk around a mall or just go get food; they like to plan an experience. Sometimes they will do bowling, sightseeing, play pickle ball, and other fun activities. Weeknights usually involve going for long walks in the park with Helena’s dog, or going somewhere for dinner, but mostly laying in bed watching their favorite show together or talking for hours. After almost 4 years of dating, trying to choose a favorite date is so hard. They have had amazing dinner dates at Rosebuds in Chicago, Fogo de Chao in Denver, restaurants on the coast of Croatia, walks on the beach in Mexico and more.”
