Daniel and I met through a ministry called Young Life. As I was speaking on stage during a state-wide retreat, he was texting his best friend who lived in my city to ask for an introduction (yes, while I was speaking…) We went on our first date a week later, and after a night of bonding over Jesus, Jimmy Eat World, and the University of Arizona, we knew that it was love. We were engaged 4 months later, and soon decided on a destination wedding in the mountain town of Durango. We craved the pine trees, mountain peaks, and the cooler weather, being from southern Arizona. We wanted a timeless and simple wedding, but one that still resembled us in every way. It was such a special day and we had a killer day-after party! My favorite moment was watching all of our loved ones cuddle under blankets and chat at the end of the night while my 2-year-old niece fell asleep in my arms. All of our vendors were wonderful to work with, and I couldn’t recommend them enough.
If I could offer any advice, it would be to realize that this wedding is a kick-off to the greater adventure – marriage. Spend just as much time readying yourselves for marriage as you do planning your wedding. Talk about your expectations, your joys, your fears, your families, your future, and then your color scheme. It is totally okay to get stoked about your wedding, but accept help from your mama and trust the talent of the vendors.
