The inspiration behind this shoot was to recognize and attend to the great loss that overtook the wedding industry, and the country, this year. I was thinking of all the postponed weddings and lost loved ones and disappointment we faced this year. We decided on the Paint Mines to give the feeling of being inside a white, dreamy, pastel space. We wanted a place that reminded us of what hope looks like.
Urban Events Colorado did an incredible job putting together a classic, ethereal aesthetic for the day. The jewelry from Charmant by Jenn created an avenue for subtle color with the crystals reflecting the sunlight into purples and blues. She also showed some unconventional jewelry to make these bridals more editorial. The dress from Runaway Bridal Co had an addition that fluffed the skirt, which gave use some sleek, clean looks that transformed into a princess feel. The dresses were light and gave an ethereal vibe, and would be the perfect fit for someone looking for an understated, but modern look. Caz of Cazmetix did a wonderful job giving Alexa a warm, coral toned makeup look. Using a dark brown and black liner, Caz accentuated her light eyes. Cathy Cleary of CRC Mountain Beauty plaited Alexa’s hair into a tasseled, loose, intricate braid. Keeping those loose styles can be tricky, but this style was so flexible and full of movement while staying super secure. In her hands, Alexa held a beautiful floral arrangement from Calla Blue Florals that accentuated the coral tones in her makeup. The deep purples and greens kept the whole piece feeling modern and unique.
These bridals were a way for all of us to express creativity after a tough season, and show brides that bridal portraits can be truly artful and thoughtful. Every vendor in the industry and in this shoot has been affected by this year, even our model Alexa who doubles as model and photographer at Broken Antler Photography. We wanted to imagine what hope would look like if it was in a wedding dress, with all of the beauty, joy, and heartache from this season of life.
