Backyard Garden Utah Wedding

One day, walking out of class at the University of Utah, a boy ran up to me and asked if I wanted to be his partner for an upcoming project. I said yes, we exchanged pleasantries and went our separate ways. I didn't think anything of it at the time, but I should have taken it as a clear sign that this guy was into me. We ended up working on a group project together, but that was about the extent of our relationship. We were strictly schoolmates. About halfway through the semester, I applied for an internship in Washington D.C. and was accepted into the program. While looking at the list of other students who would be attending the same program with me, I noticed that Colin's name appeared on it. I sent him a text and said that I was going to D.C. as well! It was fun to think that I'd have somebody I knew going on this new adventure with me. The semester came and went, and Colin and I had brief conversations about our upcoming internships in D.C. and before I knew it, it was time to hop on the plane and start my new chapter.  Since Colin and I already knew each other, we started hanging out pretty often and exploring the history of the city together. It wasn't long before I found out that he had a crush on me, and then finally, one day, we had our first kiss and our relationship started from there!

Getting Engaged: In 2016, I had been working a job that I didn't enjoy and decided I had had enough of it. I quit my job, bought a one-way plane ticket, and took off to France. The only problem was, Colin didn't do the same. He stayed at his job in Utah and due to the time difference, we had to work with phone calls and the occasional text. Near the end of the summer, Colin came out to visit me and we planned a quick trip to Europe starting in Greece. We were on the island Naxos and had spent a few days there on the beach enjoying the beauty all around us. On the third night, after dinner, we drove down to the beach and starting walking and talking under the starry night sky. We stopped for just a moment and Colin asked if I wanted to dance. He turned on some music, and we slowly danced with the moon and the ocean as our only companions. And then it happened. After the song came to an end, Colin bent down on one knee, looked up into my eyes, pulled out a ring, and asked me to marry him! I obviously said yes! The next day, I bought a plane ticket home so we could start wedding planning and plan our lives together!

My favorite part of our relationship is that I get to spend every day with my best friend and my companion. No matter how busy or frustrating my days are, I know that when I come home, I get to be with the person I love the most, who makes me feel safe, loved, and at home.

About the Big Day: Our whole goal with the wedding was to make it feel like an intimate outdoor garden wedding. For our venue, we chose a beautiful location with gorgeous overarching trees that had grown for this specific occasion. The best part of the entire day was the actual wedding ceremony. Colin's brother performed the ceremony and read a beautifully written prose. The moment we said “I do” will be one that we will never forget. It was so important to us that our family and close friends were there to attend our wedding as well. A wedding is more than the union of two individuals; it is the intertwining of two unique pasts, presents, and futures and the people that have been and will be there along the way. Sharing this moment with those we love most will always mean the world to us.
