Carly + Patrick
Patrick and Carly met during their freshman year of college, back in 2015. Patrick was a scooter-riding mechanical engineer major, who Carly found quite overbearing and loud. Carly was a biology and business major that lived across the hall from one of Patrick’s best friends. Inevitably, they met through mutual friends and started hanging out with the same group. Sooner rather than later, Carly started finding Patrick’s jokes and tricks less obnoxious and more entertaining. They started dating that semester.
The following year, Patrick dropped out of college to pursue his small business full-time. He moved back home to Heber City, Utah and made non-traditional men’s wedding rings in his parent’s basement. The story goes just like the classic basement to entrepreneurial success story. Over the last six years, Patrick has sold thousands of rings and has amassed over 1.5 million Youtube subscribers across several channels.
During that time, Carly stayed in school. During her senior year, she decided she wanted to pursue an MBA out of state. Having been together 3 years and not wanting to do long-distance, Patrick popped the question in a perfectly executed proposal at the top of Ensign Peak. He even called in a favor and set up an appointment for Carly to get her nails done at 9:30 pm that night!
Fast forward to 2020, they had planned to get married in April. The invites were designed, the venue booked, flowers ordered… But, as we all know, COVID hit and they had to postpone their ceremony indefinitely. Then, Carly’s job offered her to relocate to Chicago. Being a dream of hers to live in a big city, she accepted the offer with a move date of January 2021. So, in August 2020, Patrick and Carly ended up getting legally married in their backyard with 3 other people: 2 witnesses (siblings) and an officiant (college friend). Ironically, work ended up postponing Carly’s move to Chicago.
It wasn’t until their one-year anniversary that they held their official wedding ceremony and reception in Draper, UT. They finally got to celebrate their marriage with family and friends. They took a honeymoon in Greece, after which they immediately moved to Chicago and have been loving it in the Windy City since.
