“After swearing off love and promising myself I’d never fall for someone again, I found myself invited to a wedding and needing a date. I had just moved from Idaho to Colorado, back into my parents house after leaving a relationship and that didn’t exactly scream, “Go on a date with me!” After doing nothing about it, I received a DM on Instagram from an unfamiliar name but the most beautiful human being I’ve ever seen. We made awful small talk for a little bit, but I learned she lived in Utah, where the wedding was. So I took a shot in the dark and asked her to be my date. At first, she wouldn’t give me an answer, but finally agreed. The wedding came around, and I didn’t care so much about the wedding but rather getting to spend some time with the girl I’d been talking to, and falling for, for weeks now. As it turns out, she felt the same way. The wedding became the least important part of that weekend for both of us. Instead, we just cared about spending every moment together, going on dates, and most unexpectedly, falling in love. A short 6 months later, we found ourselves hiking up to Echo Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park to what I thought was a photoshoot. She was in a black, skin tight dress, hiking up a freezing cold mountain with every person passing by laughing at us for our poor hiking attire. Time went by and my hands were numb from the cold, but I was told it was just a few more pictures and maybe a video. We stood in front of each other, and suddenly the girl I took a shot in the dark with was reading a letter to me, spilling her heart out and tears rolling down her cheeks. My hands were no longer numb, but I felt completely warm and filled with love. After, in what felt like slow motion, she fell to one knee and held out a ring. In that moment, I knew this unexpected love was the best thing to have ever happened to me and I knew I wanted it forever. Now, we are so excited to become Grey and Kaci Leigh this September.”
