Chautauqua Park Engagement Session with Puppies

Love Story

Brendan and Rachel met at a Fourth of July party in July 2012 organized by mutual friends Ryan Watson and Joey Barach. Brendan insists he remembers meeting Rachel despite his intoxication level and Rachel swears she doesn’t remember anything about Brendan aside from the fact that he was the drunkest guy at the party. The couple met again on February 9, 2013 when they sat across from each other at Joey’s birthday dinner and despite Rachel spilling drinks all over herself, and her confusion about Brendan eating teriyaki chicken at a sushi restaurant (she would later learn that despite Brendan’s love of fly fishing, he can’t stand the taste or smell of seafood), the two hit it off and spent the remainder of the evening chatting and hanging out and ended the night hand in hand. Before Rachel left in an Uber, Brendan stole a kiss in the hallway outside Joey’s apartment.

After 4 years together, Brendan and Rachel decided in Spring 2017 that it was finally time to take the next step and get married. The couple was fortunate to have received a beautiful ring that was formerly Brendan’s mom’s ring. The couple took the ring to a jeweler to be sized and add some more bling (can never have enough!). Brendan learned the ring would be ready in June and asked the jeweler to send him an email stating that the ring wouldn’t be ready until the end of July. Brendan “accidentally” showed Rachel the email and Rachel, while bummed she had to wait a few months, very gullibly believed what she read.

Rachel planned a trip to Aspen over the weekend before the Fourth of July to celebrate Brendan’s birthday and the couple decided to go hiking in the Maroon Belles with their dachshunds on July 1, 2017. Brendan told Rachel he wanted to take a picture by the lake before they started the hike and propped up his cell phone on his backpack. Little did Rachel know, the phone was set to video and Brendan was getting down on one knee, with the dogs in each of her arms. Totally surprised that the ring was ready, all Rachel could say was “what?” and “I thought it wasn’t ready” before she finally said YES! The moment was perfectly captured on video on Brendan’s cell phone and then they spent the next few hours celebrating together with the dogs on a hike. It was the perfect Colorado proposal!
