Minette and Florian’s wedding ranch wedding didn’t happen without some interference from mother nature! A few weeks before the wedding, the “fairytale forest” with beautiful Aspen trees where they planned on having their ceremony, got destroyed by a storm.
Closer to the wedding date, the entire Cariboo region in BC was battling extensive forest fires. Even the day before the wedding, several flights got canceled because of the fires and some members of the bridal party and out of town guests made the long trek from Vancouver by car. And because of the fires, the couple’s catering company couldn’t make it out there as well as Minette’s rented horse carriage.
Luckily family and friends came together and took care of everything! And as by miracle the day of the wedding, all the smoke was gone! (and returned the day after)
The couple chose a different spot for the ceremony and they build their own impressive wedding arch, decorated with a hand carved skull, beautiful flowers and Florian’s cow hide. And of course a cow bell to ring, incorporating Florian’s Swiss heritage!
A friend of the family had a horse carriage available and up to the morning of the wedding, it was actually a bit of a surprise that Minette got to drive down the aisle in a carriage with her dad!
And as far as catering goes, Florian’s parents, who are also the owners of the Sunshine Ranch and amazing Swiss butchers, did everything themselves and it was absolutely amazing!
For the reception decor, Minette opted for an “indoor forest vibe” with big plants in the rustic barn and lots of greenery on the tables and at the ceiling. All the antlers weren’t just random props, but were all owned by them and their friends. Add a lot of cute lights and white drapes and an elegant indoor setting happened!
The flower crowns and bouquets were made the day before by Sascia, who is a friend from Switserland and happens to be a talented florist! At first Minette started a lot of the DIY herself (she made all the garlands and succulent centre pieces!), but Sascia took the flower crowns and bouquets to the next level!
All the locations at this wedding day are very meaningful. The house where Minette got ready in the morning is from a family friend and is her and Florian’s future house. The ranch and the grounds of the ceremony are owned by Florian’s parent.
The couple’s first look and some of the photos were taking in front of a smaller aspen forest. This way they still got some of that “fairytale forest”. The sage coloured bridesmaid’s dresses were perfectly complimentary to the rustic and boho environment.
The biggest takeaway from this day is how Minette and Florian were able to go with the flow and didn’t get discouraged by the setbacks. Instead they enjoyed everything to the fullest!
