Andrew and I both got internships working with different political campaigns on our campus. My campaign was having a launch party on campus to announce the candidates run, and it was my job to go around and talk to college students to recruit them to help us out. Andrew was sent by his campaign to check it out (basically a spy). He caught my eye, we talked briefly and then I introduced him to my boss. After the event, my boss approached me and said, “You have to recruit this kid, here’s his name and Instagram, go DM him and see if we can get him.” I’ve never been very bold, especially with guys, so this was totally outside of my comfort zone. I DM’ed him all the information though and told him that he could ask me any questions and let me know if he wanted to join.
He told me he was possibly interested in a different candidate, but would love to discuss it over dinner. We went on our first date, which I had no idea whether it was a date or not, had the greatest time ever, and at the end of the night he told me all about how he was spying on my event and working for a different campaign, but that hopefully we could go on more dates. From there, it was hard to keep us apart and I don’t think I’ve ever fallen for someone so quickly. He ended up proposing right outside the building that he first spied on my event, it couldn’t have been more perfect.
