“Spencer and Berkeley’s love story began on a hot day in August when Berkeley’s mom was introduced to her friend’s nephew, Spencer. Berkeley’s brother was moving to Vancouver Island to play hockey and Spencer had been living there playing for the WHL team and thought they could connect. Berkeley, who was living in Toronto at the time, got a call from her mom saying “You just have to meet this guy, I’m going to set you up.” By the time Berkeley moved back to Vancouver, Spencer had just gotten traded to the States. A few months later Berkeley’s family was on their way to Christmas Eve service and her mom said “wouldn’t it be a christmas miracle if Spencer was there tonight?” Sure enough, in a full auditorium he sat two rows behind Berkeley. Of course her mom couldn’t miss the opportunity to introduce her to him but once again he was going back to the States so nothing came from it. Not until almost 6 months later, Spencer was home for the summer and Berkeley’s mom once again spotted him at church. Later that day Berkeley’s family went to watch her brother play hockey and his coach who also happened to have coached Spencer before was there. Naturally her mom asked him what he thought of Spencer, only for him to reply “He’s the only hockey player I think you should go on a date with, I’m calling him” So almost a full year after her mom initially met Spencer, Berkeley gave this coach her number and not even an hour later Spencer called Berkeley. The next day he picked her up and they went on their first date. Things clicked pretty fast and they were quick to make it official. Spencer decided to stay local and play hockey at university after that first summer. Three years later they took a trip to Vancouver Island, one of their favorite places, with Berkeley’s family. He completely fooled her when she thought they were meeting a friend for drinks and instead he walked her to the gazebo on the ocean at the Oak Bay Beach Hotel where they were staying and popped the question there. The surprises didn’t stop there, as they walked back into the hotel not only was her family there but he had ferried his parents over for dinner from the mainland as well. Ten months later they got married on Berkeley’s family farm on May 28th, 2022. With a ceremony on the dock of the lake and a fun reception celebrating with family and friends dancing the night away, it could not have been a more perfect day.”
