My husband, Nick and I had planned to get married at a beautiful outdoor wedding venue in the Summer of 2021. A few months after we booked it, we were starting to wonder if the traditional wedding route was what we wanted. Then, I saw an Instagram story of a surprise wedding that was disguised as an engagement party, and we became hooked on the idea. When you plan a wedding, the idea and hope is that you’ll only do it once. If this was our only shot, then we wanted to make sure that we stayed true to ourselves and made it 100% our own. Having a wild time, enveloped in love and joy, and doing things our way, with our people is what we always wanted our wedding to be; we didn’t want people to be silent while we got married, we wanted them to cheer! We brought the idea to our parents, siblings and photographer Tylyn, and managed to pull off the greatest surprise wedding. In order to keep up the allure of the surprise wedding, we lied to our family and friends for months, we couldn’t have an engagement shoot beforehand, so Ty suggested we do a ‘post wedding’ shoot instead. The next day, we headed out to Jasper, and ran around the side of a mountain in our wedding attire with Ty. It was the perfect way to end a weekend filled with more love and joy than we could have ever hoped for. And thanks to our photographer Tylyn, Every time we look at our photos we feel like we are in a time machine, all of the scents, sounds, feelings and emotions from the days come flooding back. She was so much more than a photographer, she was our motivator, a comedian, our outfit steamer and veil holder. She went above and beyond; without her, it wouldn’t have been the same.
