Megan is originally from Maine while Cameron was born and raised in London. The couple met during the Mongol Rally in the most unlikely of places, the Armenia-Iran border on August 1, 2016. Both of their teams convoyed across northern Iran together and then onward through Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Siberia and through the wilds of Mongolia (where Cameron began to fall for Megan), until they arrived at the finish line together in Ulan Ude, Siberia. After the race, they exchanged numbers over WhatsApp and they spoke everyday since. It wasn’t long before the phone calls turned into monthly trips to see each other and then in July, 2017 the couple visited Banff, a longtime bucket list item for both of them, where Cameron proposed along the banks of Moraine Lake with the Ten Peaks and a full moon standing witness.
Nothing about the couple’s relationship has been conventional, so when they started planning their wedding they knew they wanted to do something that was just for them that would reflect who they are as a couple, so they decided to elope in the Rocky Mountains.
The couple got ready in the cutest Airbnb cabin in the woods and then we made our way up the mountain to Loveland Pass where the couple married themselves in the most romantic self-uniting ceremony. Even though it was just going to be the two of them, Megan wanted their elopement to be full of details with meaning and significance, and boy she did not disappoint, she thought about everything from the cake topper down to their boots.
Megan wore LLBean boots to give a nod to her Maine heritage, and Cameron wore Doc Martens to reflect his London roots. Megan gifted Cameron with custom made cuff links with Megan’s handwriting on them. Before the ceremony, the couple took a shot of whiskey out of their banana flask (Cameron is obsessed with bananas and his best friend gave him the flask) and Megan surprised Cameron with a banana chocolate chip cake (so stinking cute!!)
Megan and Cameron performed their own marriage ceremony, (because in Colorado you do not need an officiant or witnesses to get married, you can actually marry yourself!) and just as they started to read their vows to each other the snow began to fall. My favorite part of the ceremony was when the couple yelled from the mountaintops and pronounced themselves husband and wife as passerby cars honked with congratulations as they kissed for the first time as husband and wife. After the ceremony they had a champagne toast with their Harry Potter mugs (OBSESSED!) that they picked up in London during their last visit on the studio tour – Megan being a Ravenclaw and Cameron a Gryffindor.
After the ceremony, they cut their cake on the back of their pickup truck with camping sporks that Cameron’s father had gifted to them. Their cake topper which read “EEP” which is an inside joke with the couple’s friends from the first time that Megan went to visit London after the rally and Cameron accidentally sent an excited ‘EEP!’ text to his friends’ group chat instead of to Megan, thus EEP was born!
