“Our engagement was in Porto, Portugal, on a boat cruise at sunset, during Aman’s medical school graduation trip. He planned everything in a thoughtful, romantic, and intentional way, which felt perfectly ‘us’. His immediate family was there in person, and mine tuned in virtually from Canada, which made the moment feel shared despite the distance. Aman’s background is Indian, and I am from the West Coast of Canada; from the beginning, we knew we wanted our wedding to intentionally blend our cultures together. We celebrated with both Indian and Western pre-wedding events. Our Mehndi and Sangeet were held at Aman’s family home in Vancouver. These events were full of music, colour and fabulous food catered by Mo Eddine from Senses Food and Catering. Our black-tie rehearsal dinner took place at the Union Club of Victoria, a venue that has been meaningful to my family for generations. On the wedding day at Laurel Point, Aman wore his father’s wedding kurta, and I wore a white dress with a desi-inspired veil, both from Blush Bridal, paired with my grandmother’s jewellery. Our ceremony itself perfectly blended Western wedding traditions with Hindu and Parsi themes, symbolizing the merging of our backgrounds. For the reception, we switched outfit themes – I wore a lengha from The Saree Room, and Aman changed into a black suit – to dance the night away to live and DJ music by the talented Jill Cooper. Throughout the day, we wove together Indian and Western music, rituals and traditions, creating a celebration that truly reflected both our family backgrounds and the life we are building together.”
