“I had an unrealistic idea of love because my parents’ love story was straight out of a RomCom. My mom was a flight attendant, and my dad was a passenger, and I’ll leave it at that until I write it out and sell it to a production company someday. Let’s just say, I had unreasonable expectations in finding true love until I met my husband. The most annoying thing a person in a relationship can say to a single person is, ‘it happens when you least expect it’, which I hated because I was ALWAYS expecting it…until I wasn’t. I had gotten my heart broken in the Spring of 2022 and spent the entire summer healing from it with no intentions of dating for a long time. I started my own business–a women-only social event organization to help adult women make friends, because nothing cures a broken heart like friendship with the girls. I had met some new friends, specifically a couple whom I adored immediately, and I was really trying to focus on myself. I decided to go on a Hinge date (the second and last dating app date I’d ever gone on) simply because I wanted to prove to myself that I could and that I was healed. I texted my new girlfriend to track my location, as girls do, and went on my merry way. I know where you all think this is going, but you’re wrong. The date went horribly. I had one drink, left, and texted my friend to let them know I was home. She told me to meet her and her friends at a local mini-golf bar, so I overcame my fears and got in an Uber. I was shocked when I walked in and saw a huge group of the tallest, most beautiful group of men and women I’d ever seen (ex-basketball players and their wives/girlfriends). After a lot of introductions, I set eyes on a 6’8, blue-eyed boy who took my breath away. That man later became my husband. Turns out he worked in the same niche industry as my dad (we own a family business), his parents went to the same college as I did in Utah, even though we were in Washington, and we’d been in the same place at the same time many times without noticing each other over the years. The last part always amazes me because he is pretty hard to miss, and as a tall girl, I always notice the tall men. The invisible string theory never fails to be true. We started as friends until the Halloween weekend of 2022, when a mix of liquid courage, dancing, and costume-induced alter-ego confidence led us to kiss. We met for the first time on September 9th, but we didn’t have our first date until November 9th, making it easy when picking out our wedding date three years later–August 9th. We were always meant to be together; it just needed to be the right time for both of us. I’ll forever be grateful for that terrible Hinge date because it led me to the man of my dreams.”
