“Nicole and Rhys met online, as many modern couples do, but it didn’t take long for their relationship to grow offline. The pair bonded over a shared love of sushi and, naturally, their first date was at a sushi restaurant. But it was their second date that solidified for each of them that the other was ‘the one’. They spent the evening playing games at the Rec Room and laughing so hard they cried. At the time, Nicole was living in Calgary, and Rhys was in a small town outside the city. For months, they took turns driving back and forth to spend time together, making every visit an occasion to look forward to. The next two years included big milestones for the couple. A year after they started dating, Nicole and Rhys moved in together, in Rhys’s small town, and the following year they purchased their first home together. An even bigger milestone occurred on New Year’s Eve at the Comox Valley Harbour when Rhys asked Nicole to marry him. Nicole recalls that a rain shower had just stopped when they arrived at the harbour, leaving it almost completely empty. She and Rhys strolled along the dock watching sea lions and jellyfish, with beautiful misty mountains in the distance. They reached the end of the dock, and Rhys popped the question. ‘It was so beautiful and perfect,’ Nicole says. Nicole and Rhys will exchange vows next summer in Calgary in front of their closest friends and family.”
