“Mandy and I met in Spanish class at the University of Kansas in 2012. We dated throughout college and it was amazing! After we graduated, I moved to Texas for work and we tried to stay in touch but didn’t know how to make a long-distance relationship work. We texted every now and then, but after a while we both figured the other person had moved on. One night (six years later) I texted her and asked how she was doing, genuinely hoping that she was doing well, but then I got embarrassed and immediately blocked her number. I honestly didn’t want to know that ‘the on’ had truly gotten away. She then tried to text me back and the reply showed in ‘green’ instead of blue (on an iPhone) which means she knew I had blocked her number. Being the go-getter that she is, she sent the email that led to where we are today. She jokingly asked if I had blocked her number and was giving me grief about it. We exchanged a few emails which led to us talking on the phone each night. I still lived in Texas, so after a few months, she took the initiative and flew down to see me to see if we still had the connection that we both hoped was there. She says that she wanted to make sure I wasn’t bald. It turns out that after all of those years apart, we both wanted the same thing… each other. We started dating again on 11/21/2021 and made countless trips to see one another for the next 18 months. Dating long distance taught us more about one another than we ever could have imagined. The hours spent talking on the phone every night made helped us grow tremendously. Now we knew the next step was for one of us to move closer and it was obvious that the person was me (I am not a fan of Texas by any means). After a few months of looking for the right job opportunity, I got my dream job in Kansas in June of 2023 and we knew our future together was closer than we ever thought possible. So here we are today. We have overcome every obstacle together. From the distance apart to the time we have spent living together, we are constantly learning and growing closer. I absolutely adore Mandy and we are beyond ready to take the next step. I look forward to capturing this incredible moment together!”
