“Alex and I met at mutual friend’s cottage weekend in Ontario and immediately hit it off. I was working in Toronto at the time while Alex was up in Timmins, but we kept in touch following the weekend. A few weeks later we spontaneously booked a hiking trip in Peru together for our first date. Despite concerns over our sanity from several family members, the trip went extremely well – we have been together ever since! Seven years later on a rainy boxing day in Fernie, British Columbia, Alex proposed in an old growth forest near my family’s home. Alex and I wanted a relaxed and intimate summer wedding with our immediate families in Calgary, Alberta. Our ceremony was held at a small church in downtown Calgary, followed by our reception at The Deane House. We were immediately drawn to The Deane House as our venue due to the history and rustic elegance of the property. Inspired by the venue’s beautiful gardens, our day featured lots of colorful florals – including a floral collar for our black lab Denali, who we made sure was included in our big day. We couldn’t have asked for a better day celebrating with those closest to us – it was exactly the special and intimate celebration of love we had hoped for.”
