Looking back on our wedding, our ceremony was the highlight of the day. Sandwiched between the commotion of getting ready and the energetic celebration to follow, our ceremony was a moment when time stopped and it was just about Micah and I, surrounded by the love and support of our closest family and friends. We had gone back and forth for months as to whether or not to have a Jewish ceremony. To be honest, neither of us had even attended a Jewish wedding before so we didn't have much to go off of. Micah's Jewish Heritage was an important priority to me as his wife-to-be, especially when considering the family we plan to start together. When thinking of the memories we would look back on with our kids, we knew being married by a Rabbi would make for a truly meaningful day. Rabbi Goodman, a high school teacher by day, did an incredible job of creating a ceremony that was easy for all of our guests to understand, Jews and non-Jews alike. He explained each tradition, translated all of the Hebrew prayers, and created a customized ceremony that reflected us as individuals and as a couple. All of our guests raved about what an enlightening experience it was and how much they learned.
The Hora was every bit as fun and scary as we expected... It was so cool to see our family and friends holding hands dancing around us, laughing and smiling. Thankfully, we had some really strong men lifting us on the chairs and luckily for me, the fellows tasked with my chair made me feel as safe as they could. However, I'm pretty sure Micah's crew successfully accomplished making him feel like he was riding a mechanical bull. We were both terrified and laughing all at the same time. Sort of a great way to sum up marriage, right?
