Ditch the pin curls and tulle.

Ditch the pin curls and tulle.

We've all seen it - the flower girls whining and tugging at their hair because the tightly twisted up-do, though adorable, is hurting their head. The two-year-old ring bearer stripping down just before walking down the aisle because he's hot and uncomfortable.

The Reality Wedding of the...Month

The Reality Wedding of the...Month

I promise I was trying...I really was. I made a pact with myself not to talk about Kim Kardashian's wedding. But I can't help myself. With wedding pix still being held hostage by People magazine and E!, I was reduced to watching the  "exclusive" video. The big news - to me - was the monostrosity of the alter. Followed closely by the I'm-not-a-British-royal-but-I'd-like-to-play-one-on-TV bizarre aisle.

Go big, or don't go mermaid

Go big, or don't go mermaid

Sometime around January, we were asked to participate in a poll about our predictions for 2011 wedding trends. One of the questions asked the 2010 trends we were most tired of, and hoping to see disappear in 2011. I responded "mermaid gowns." (Before you blow up our Facebook page, recognize that this is my personal opinion. I prefer funky, couture cut gowns that border on the vintage edge.) Then today, this email landed in my inbox from Etsy:

Diamonds may be a girl's best friend, but...

Diamonds may be a girl's best friend, but...

Borrowed diamonds are a hot Latin lover. Except you're getting married...so you wouldn't have a Latin lover. But if you weren't, and you did, it would be a pair of blazing diamond drop earrings that retail for upwards of $7,000, but you wore for just $160. "How?" you ask.

I'll tell you how.

Why own when you can rent?

Why own when you can rent?

Unless you're allowing your bridesmaids to pick any dress, in any cut, from anywhere they'd like (including their closet), so long as it's green, don't - repeat - do not - try to bury the expense and the pitch in layers of "but I'm sure you'll wear it again!"Explore your options, including renting gowns.

Gray...It's the new White

Gray...It's the new White

One of the trends we saw a lot of in 2010 was splashes of color incorporated into bridal looks - sashes on gowns, brightly hued shoes, fun hair accessories. We're starting to see an entirely different, daring trend emerge in 2011: gowns made of something other than white.

Mentioning the Unmentionables

Mentioning the Unmentionables

A co-worker of mine recently returned from her sister's wedding, and in gossiping - er, talking - about the details, the subject of undergarments came up. Specifically, bras. More specifically, the lack of the right one to go with the dress she wore to the ceremony, resulting in constant tugging to keep the Barely There barely in place.
