October = Halloween?

October = Halloween?

The last two years, wedding "season" isn't confined to June, July and August. It's stretched through September and October, and picks up again in March.Personally, I'd rather get married in the fall. It's a gorgeous time in the mountains - leaves are golden, the air is crisp, and the day-time temperatures are comfortable. But does that mean you have to host a Halloween-themed celebration?

Let them eat (fun, extraordinary) cake!

Let them eat (fun, extraordinary) cake!

I've seen a lot of weddings. And a lot of wedding cakes. Most of those cakes are white sheet cakes, or perfectly stacked tiers, with a simple strand of frosting matching the wedding colors. Which is fine...but for such an important, traditional component of your celebration, why not go with something out of the ordinary?

A Wow Moment from Beaver Creek

A Wow Moment from Beaver Creek

I had a Wow Moment watching the video promoting the new Wedding Deck at Beaver Creek. If I were getting married tomorrow, I would claw over other brides to host my ceremony here. It's not necessarily the mountain view that sets it apart (sorry, BC, but your sister resorts offer similar peak-to-peak views) - it's the place itself.

Discovering Telluride

Discovering Telluride

Telluride’s sleepy, humble nature is slowly being discovered...Our difficult-to-reach destination once thought of as a challenge to the community is now coveted as one of its many attributes setting Telluride apart from other mountain resorts.  Telluride is known for its sweet, laid-back locals, its non-existant lift lines, prestigious ammenties and amazing guest service. Planning a wedding and wrapping it around a vacation for yourselves and your closest, most favorite people makes sense.  Sharing a place like Telluride makes sense.

Mentioning the Unmentionables

Mentioning the Unmentionables

 A co-worker of mine recently returned from her sister's wedding, and in gossiping - er, talking - about the details, the subject of undergarments came up. Specifically, bras. More specifically, the lack of the right one to go with the dress she wore to the ceremony, resulting in constant tugging to keep the Barely There barely in place.

Let the Stars Guide Your Way

Let the Stars Guide Your Way

We've all heard the bad pick up line leftover from the 1970s ("Hey, baby, what's your sign?") so maybe that's why astrology and reliance on the stars is, well, taken rather lightly, in our post-war, Western society. But when we stumbled on Bridal-Scopes, it renewed our faith in the stars.

You met...how??

You met...how??

I'm not sure I entirely agree with the premise of this article - that, in telling your "how we met" story, if you pepper it with pseudo swipes and negative comments, you're doomed. My husband knows that I tell our "how we met" story just as I've told it above...he's heard me re-tell it hundreds of times (including the part about how he annoyed me). That leaves me wondering if the opposite of the article's statement isn't true...

Fact or Fiction: Post Wedding Realities

Fact or Fiction: Post Wedding Realities

I stumbled upon a post titled "10 Shocking Secrets of the First Year of Marriage" on Yahoo's Shine the other day. Having been married 14 1/2 years (do I look that old?), I had to read it to see A) If I could remember what being a newly wed is like, and B) Assuming I could recall Year One, if the article had any truth to it. Below are excerpts of the "secrets" with my commentary either affirming the reality, or questioning whether the author of this piece is even hitched. Enjoy!
