Katy Gray Photography, Jackson Hole Wyoming Wedding Photographer
by Cocoa Blue Photography Your photography business: Katy Gray Photography Where do you live? Jackson, WY Did you go to school to study photography? I did! I moved up to Bozeman, MT in 2001 and went through their photography program. I graduated in December 2004 and moved back to Jackson that spring. How long have you been shooting weddings? I started out assisting in 2001, second shot a bit and did my first wedding on my own in 2006. How would you describe your style? I'd say we shoot mostly photo-journalistic style with a time-out for portraits of the couple. So mostly PJ with a dash of family pictures and lots of snuggly couply portraits. What inspires you in your work? I'm really loving the vintage shabby chic style that is so popular right now in weddings and decor and crafting in general. I like the whole DIY aesthetic. As far as other photographers I love Anna Kuperberg's compositions. And pretty much everything about Amelia Lyon and Chenin Boutwell - their use of light and the way they process their images really inspires me. What is your best piece of photography advice for brides? Have fun! Climb fences! Get dirty! Don't wear sparkly foundation! Really though - do your best not to stress out. Everything is planned, it's your wedding day - remember to have fun and enjoy all those little details you spent so much time planning. Photos of you having a good time and really enjoying yourself will turn out so much better than photos where you can see that frown line between your eyes as you worry about the caterer or the bouquets. What is your favorite part about shooting weddings? I love watching people in love. I almost always cry during the ceremony. I love getting the secret glimpse into a couple's inside life when we sneak away to do portraits. I love seeing what they do as they walk back down the aisle (high five? hands in the air? uncontrollable little dance of joy?) as man and wife.
