From the photographer, David of Matdivad Photography: Not only was this wedding monumentally beautiful, it was the wedding two good friends of mine. Dana and Tanner (aka Danner) originally planned to have a destination wedding in Los Cabos, Mexico. The stress of planning a destination wedding just wasn't something they needed in their busy lives not to mention, the resort they planned on booking was completely decimated by the hurricanes in 2015.

Rather than settling with a resort that may or may not have been rebuilt in time for their wedding in 2016, they decided, getting married closer to home would suit them and their guests much better. Dana and Tanner paid a visit to Ucluelet on Vancouver Island for a short weekend vacation and fell in love with the small west coast town. After that, decided that it was the perfect place for their nuptials.

Our adventure began the day before the wedding. Ryan and I caught the first ferry to The Island and had an amazing drive through the Pacific Rim National Park. We arrived in Ucluelet 5 hours later and met up with Dana and Tanner to attend their wedding rehearsal on the beach. Our work was done for the day so we were off the rest of the day to experience what this quaint little town had to offer.

The following morning, we woke up to the majestic sun shining through a thin layer of morning fog. I headed over to the girls' cabin before joining them for a morning yoga session on the beach. Ryan joined the guys in combing a different beach and prepping it for the ceremony later in the afternoon. This was definitely THE MOST relaxing wedding morning I've ever photographed thus far in my career. After our yoga session, we headed back up to the cabin where the girls would be getting ready. Makeup was expertly applied by Alison Wertz of Compass Wedding Café and hair beautifully crafted by Sarah Galliazzo of Gem's Hair. While having her hair and makeup done, Dana received a small gift from Tanner - a photo album outlining the highlights of their years together. It was impossible for Dana to keep the laughs and the tears held in.

Once all the morning prep was taken care of, we loaded ourselves into the cars and drove down the road to the beach at Wya Point Resort where the ceremony would take place. Flowers were provided by the super talented Kalen Meaden from The Flower Factory. A beautiful and touching celebration of love was performed by Barbara Densmore. I was told that it took months to plan and find the pefect words to celebrate and join these two in matrimony.

After the ceremony, guests were invited to play a few games on the beach and to enjoy a cocktail reception while I swept the wedding party away for our portrait session. Being in one of the most beautiful parts of the province, we didn't have to travel too far to find some breathtaking views. Our bridal party portraits took place right on the beach a few steps away from where the ceremony was held. I then took the bride and groom over onto the rocky shore to explore the tidal pools and watch the tide roll in. There were a few moments of silence as we just stood there on the rocks in awe of the beauty surrounding us.

We finished this perfect day with a reception at the hall of the Ucluelet Community Centre. The hall was fully decorated in a true west coast fashion. Centre pieces were made of sections of trees and adorned with ferns and evergreens. The backstage where games would later be held was lined and lit with candles and the string lights (painstakingly hung by friends the night before) finished off the the space and gave it its outdoor inspired ambiance. I was able to be a huge part of this wedding and also celebrate alongside all my friends. This night was truly a night to remember and I'm so happy to have been able to give Dana and Tanner something to remember it by.
