All your long-distance plans have been made, your dress has been altered and it is only weeks before you pack up everything and head to Colorado. Now is the time to make plans to transport your gown safely to your wedding location.
Ship it: Time permitting, shipping via a national carrier like UPS or FedEx, may be a good option. A few tips are warranted, however.
• Be certain to package your gown according to the
carrier’s guidelines which may include a specific kind of box and inner cushion.
• Information may be obtained from their respective websites: www.ups.com or www.fedex.com.
• Insurance should be adequate to cover loss or damage to the contents, keeping in mind that all guidelines MUST BE FOLLOWED to collect on claims.
• We recommend shipping to a business and not a residence. Consider a local bridal shop, your reception site or a dry cleaner that plans to press your gown.
Is the thought of shipping your gown enough to cause you to break out in hives? Well then, transporting the gown yourself will be your least stressful option.
Travel by Air:
• If traveling by air, pack the gown in your carry-on luggage.
• With ever-changing size restrictions, call the airline’s customer service department prior to departure.
Travel by Car:
• When driving, leave Fido at home or better yet, send him with the groom.
• Carefully suspend your gown and veil across the back seat of the car.
• In all circumstances, be certain to have the gown in an opaque bag to prevent sun and moisture damage.
Be sure to discuss with your local coordinator arrangements for pressing and transporting your gown to your wedding site. Trust the local vendors for advice on this as some businesses have shorter hours on holidays and weekends.
